An Okaloosa County jury acquitted former deputy Eddie Duran, 38, of manslaughter in the May 2024 killing of Black US airman Roger Fortson. Duran shot Fortson, who held a handgun pointed down, after responding to a false domestic-disturbance report. Fortson’s family plans a civil case.
