A study led by Sanchayeeta Borthakur and Namrata Roy finds that plasma jets from supermassive black holes can heat and disturb star-forming gas in the circumgalactic medium, which extends 10–20 times beyond a galaxy’s visible edge, potentially preventing new stars from forming.
