The US added 29,000 jobs in September, far below forecasts of 84,000–90,000, while unemployment rose from 4.1% to 4.2%. Healthcare added 17,000 jobs, construction 11,000 and manufacturing 9,000, but financial activities lost 7,000 in the final jobs report before the midterm elections.
