Swiss glaciers lose 5.5% of their ice volume in 2026

Switzerland’s glaciers lost 5.5% of their ice in 2026, the second-largest annual decline on record, bringing the five-year loss to nearly 20%. GLAMOS blamed scant winter snowfall and record summer heat, warning that some ice could disappear within 10–15 years and threaten water supplies.
