Japan has launched a $578 million spacecraft on a five-year mission to explore Phobos and Deimos. Led by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency with four other space agencies, it will attempt the first landing and sample collection on a Martian moon, returning material from Phobos to Earth in 2031.
