Tomonobu Gomi becomes first Asian swimmer under 49 seconds in short-course 100m butterfly
Tomonobu Gomi, 23, won the Japanese short-course 100m butterfly in 48.58, breaking the Japanese and Asian records and becoming the first Asian below 49 seconds. His first national record makes him the event’s ninth-fastest swimmer in history.
