In 2016, the United Nations committed to eliminating AIDS, but prevention is now slipping and infections are rising again. HIV, first identified in humans in the early to mid-twentieth century and defined as the cause of AIDS in 1983, has killed more than 44 million people worldwide; an estimated 41
