Canada indefinitely suspends assisted-dying expansion for mental illness

Canada will indefinitely suspend plans to allow assisted dying when mental illness is a patient’s sole condition, cancelling the March 2027 start date amid disagreement over eligibility. A proposed law will also permit advance consent for patients with a progressing incurable illness.
