Riyadh financial district targeted by missiles as Saudi strikes kill 33 in Yemen
Riyadh’s financial district was targeted by two ballistic missiles fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, which were intercepted by the Saudi-led coalition on Sunday. Falling debris inflicted limited damage on an administrative building belonging to state oil firm Saudi Aramco, though authorities reported no injuries. The attempted strike came a day after Saudi airstrikes killed at least 33 people—predominantly women and children—in the town of Bani Hushaysh near Sanaa. Sehatuna Hospital director Abdul-Aziz al-Dailami reported that numerous victims and first responders were left trapped under collapsed buildings.
The escalation coincides with broader regional tensions involving Tehran. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that the mission regarding Iran remains incomplete, charging that the country is renewing its push toward nuclear weapons. In response to wider security threats, the US military established a 20-member civilian and military task force in Florida. According to US Central Command chief Brad Cooper, the team will work to block illicit weapons, dual-use technology, and revenue streams across Iran’s land borders and the Caspian Sea, expanding upon naval restrictions enforced during an eight-month war that has disrupted transit through the critical Strait of Hormuz.
